Translation: Pickthall

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ

Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 96:1

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ

Createth man from a clot. 96:2

ٱقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ

Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 96:3

ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ

Who teacheth by the pen, 96:4

عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ

Teacheth man that which he knew not. 96:5

كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ

Nay, but verily man is rebellious 96:6

أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓ

That he thinketh himself independent! 96:7

إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ

Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 96:8

أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ

Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 96:9

عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ

A slave when he prayeth? 96:10

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ

Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 96:11

أَوْ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ

Or enjoineth piety? 96:12

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ

Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 96:13

أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ

Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 96:14

كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ

Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 96:15

نَاصِيَةٍ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ

The lying, sinful forelock - 96:16

فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُۥ

Then let him call upon his henchmen! 96:17

سَنَدْعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ

We will call the guards of hell. 96:18

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب

Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). 96:19
