Al-Layl

Translation: Pickthall

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ

By the night enshrouding 92:1

وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ

And the day resplendent 92:2

وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ

And Him Who hath created male and female, 92:3

إِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتَّىٰ

Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 92:4

فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَىٰ وَٱتَّقَىٰ

As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 92:5

وَصَدَّقَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ

And believeth in goodness; 92:6

فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ

Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 92:7

وَأَمَّا مَنۢ بَخِلَ وَٱسْتَغْنَىٰ

But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 92:8

وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ

And disbelieveth in goodness; 92:9

فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْعُسْرَىٰ

Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 92:10

وَمَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥٓ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰٓ

His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 92:11

إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدَىٰ

Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 92:12

وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلْـَٔاخِرَةَ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ

And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 92:13

فَأَنذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًا تَلَظَّىٰ

Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 92:14

لَا يَصْلَىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلْأَشْقَى

Which only the most wretched must endure, 92:15

ٱلَّذِى كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ

He who denieth and turneth away. 92:16

وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَتْقَى

Far removed from it will be the righteous 92:17

ٱلَّذِى يُؤْتِى مَالَهُۥ يَتَزَكَّىٰ

Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 92:18

وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُۥ مِن نِّعْمَةٍ تُجْزَىٰٓ

And none hath with him any favour for reward, 92:19

إِلَّا ٱبْتِغَآءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ

Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 92:20

وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضَىٰ

He verily will be content. 92:21
